This is my first car an '81 Olds Cutlass. It had a ruff life. I bought it wrecked from a friend for $350, who had been hit hard on the drivers side front (Accident #1). I replaced the front clip and had Macco give it the $189 special, after I removed the smokin' 260 Olds V-8 and replaced it with a fresh 350 Chevy. One night it just started to rain and the roads were really slick and I did not notice that the people in front of me had made a very abrupt stop not more than three weeks after I had the car painted (Accident #2). This was front clip #2 and my neighbor repainted the front end. Time went by and I have installed a new engine, my first attempt at rebuilding was flawed and the motor would eat cams in less than 3,000 miles. Engine #2 came straight out of a Chevy Wagon with over 150,000 miles. It to had a flat cam but with a new Perfect Circle replacement for an '72 Chevy pickup and headers I was able to get this combination to run a 15.8 sec 1/4 mile. Not to bad for a motor that had more than 200,000 on the stock bottom end by that time and it used a Quart of oil every 120 miles. Motor #3 was another fresh rebuild, except I learned from my mistakes and I cleaned the block out a lot more than the last time. This motor is now in my '83 Cutlass. Not long after installing Motor #3 some slow POS Ford Pickup cut me off on the highway causing me to lock up my brakes and across all three lanes of the highway into the median and then back across to the shoulder (Accident #3). The car was the only thing hurt and with the extensive damage to the frame I saved what I could and built up my next Cutlass. Below are pics and other facts about this car. It is now resting in some scrap yard in Missouri. |
